At Shiell Joinery, we don’t just craft woodworking projects; we create pieces with heart, built on passion and a commitment to quality. My name is Alexander Shiell, and from a young age, I knew that the conventional path wasn’t for me. At 15, I left school to pursue something I was truly passionate about—working with my hands, solving problems, and following my entrepreneurial instincts.

That’s when I founded Shiell Joinery, a business built on independence, quality, and creativity. At Shiell Joinery, we handcraft beautiful, bespoke pieces—ranging from chopping boards to coffee tables—each made with care and using only the finest wood. We don’t compete on price; we compete on craftsmanship and customer service. Every product is made with pride, and we’re committed to delivering items that are as functional as they are beautiful, meant to last for years to come.

After leaving school, I studied joinery at college under the guidance of Graham Skirving, a mentor who helped me refine my skills and deepen my love for the craft. Upon completing my course, I moved on to an apprenticeship in wood machining, but it was not what I had hoped for. Rather than being taught the art of woodworking, I was given menial tasks and felt undervalued. There was no room for creativity or growth, and I quickly realized that this environment wasn’t right for me. Instead of continuing down a path where I was treated more like a machine than a craftsman, I decided to take control of my own destiny.
